Private Onsen in Kyoto for Day Use
Can you use a private onsen in Kyoto without staying? Which properties sell day use, which keep their private baths for guests, and the public hot springs you can visit for the day. Checked November 2026.
Almost no private onsen in Kyoto is open to day visitors: the properties keep them for guests who stay, and some for guests who also eat. The exception we found is Arashiyama Onsen Hanaikada, whose day plans with lunch start at JPY 4,100 and let you add its rooftop private bath, JPY 2,200 a party for 40 minutes (its own page, November 2026). For a soak with no room at all, the public baths are the answer: Kurama Onsen’s entry ticket with a set meal is from US$31 a person (checked November 2026), in baths separate for men and women.
Free cancellation until 24 hours before. The ticket is valid for a month.

Hanaikada’s day plans
Arashiyama Onsen Hanaikada, beside Togetsukyo Bridge, sells three day plans, all with lunch and all booked ahead (its own page, November 2026):
- Lunch and the hot spring, from JPY 4,100: its shared baths from 11:00 to 16:00, with a small towel.
- Lunch in a private room and the hot spring, from JPY 7,150, with towels and a yukata.
- A room with its own onsen bath, lunch and the hot spring, from JPY 14,300, one party a day, booked by phone; the room’s bath is yours from 11:00 to 14:00, and the plan adds a JPY 100 bathing tax a person.
The rooftop private bath is separate from all three: JPY 2,200 a party for 40 minutes, reserved, for diners or guests. Its page says the baths use 100% Arashiyama onsen water. So of the places we found, the least expensive private soak without a night’s stay is the lunch plan plus the rooftop bath. If you would rather sleep there, check Hanaikada’s rooms .
